The Waitakere Ranges are filled with beautiful native bush and trails for you to walk on, but when you are tired of that you may want to hit a beach. Since the Waitakeres separate Auckland from the sea, you can imagine the dramatic views as you drop down towards the black sand. Each beach has a slightly different character about it and everyone has their favourite. As an alternative, you might like to head back towards the city and take the kids to an ice rink to cool off or there are always the lovely 'out west' wineries.
