CBD
The CBD is the best place to situate yourself in order to access all that is good in Auckland. For a start, there are numerous cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels and backpackers (hostels) here in the centre. For the things that are beyond the CBD, such as beaches and interesting neighbourhoods, you will have a better chance of accessing them if you are based in the CBD as all public transport begins here.
The main shopping areas are along Queen Street, Karangahape Road (K' Road), and the High Street area. At night, especially during warmer weather, it is fun to hang out in the bars and restaurants down on the waterfront or take a dinner cruise out on the harbour. There are also lots of green areas. Myer Park and Albert Park are two such places that each have their own vibe.
