• NileGuide Expert Says:

Fresh food, done simply on Waiheke. They select what the main and entrée will be for the day and give you a choice for dessert. A small restaurant that continues to pack them in. The deli downstairs is a great spot for a little nosh during the day.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Call ahead to see what the menu holds.

    Description:

    • Thymes Tables is located above the Island Thyme deli on Waiheke and provides a gastronomic treat for locals and tourists alike. The food tends toward the basics (think John Dory or Eye Fillet), but is done exceptionally well. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner from 5:30 pm onwards, you need to ring ahead (+64 9 372-3400 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              +64 9 372-3400      end_of_the_skype_highlighting), as the menu changes daily and reservations are handy. The deli downstairs does nice food on a generally takeaway basis. The real treat is upstairs. You can choose the wine from a nice list, a blend of local favorites and European niceties. The only other choice you need to make is whether you will have dessert or not. The menu is set each day and there are no points of variance per day. But don't worry, the quality of the food is such that you could show up blindfolded and get something tasty. However, if you are a fussy eater you should probably heed my earlier advice to call ahead and check the menu. Insider tip: go on Thursday's when it is BYO night. Also, on the first Wednesday of each month the restaurant offers cooking demonstration nights where you join the chefs in the kitchen as they prepare each course. Beginning at 6.30pm, you will sit down & enjoy each course matched with wines.
