NileGuide Expert tip:
Auckland's Botanic Gardens
- With free admission, Auckland's 65 hectare Botanic Gardens are a lovely place to spend an afternoon strolling round looking at the native and imported flora. You can take a self-guided tour or just walk along discovering the various areas. The succulents look quite prehistoric and the veggie garden is always interesting. And, if you are missing your four-legged friend, pop down to the back field which is a dog exercise area and you will see heaps of furry friends running around like crazy.
The best way to get to the gardens is by car, although you can take a Manurewa-bound bus from the Britomart Transport Centre in the CBD (Central Business District). Ask the driver to drop you at Southmall, where you will need to walk up Hill Road for about 15 minutes from the traffic lights. You go over the motorway and then the Botanic Gardens will be on the left-hand side.
