• The zoo is home to over 770 animals with 135 different species represented. There are Tiger Cubs, Elephants and Lemurs as well as Red Pandas, Hippos and a special Australian bird setup. The Zoo is located next to the Museum of Transportation (MOTAT) and is well marked on the Northwestern Motorway in both directions. It's only a 7 minute drive (non-rush hour) from the CBD and can be reached by bus, taxi or private car quite easily. The Zoo operates several innovative programs like eye to eye encounters and there are multiple chances to see the animals feeding. A soft spot in Aucklanders heart's will always be there for the resident Elephants, Kashin and Burma. It's easy to see them feeding as they consume over 100 Kg's each every day.
