St Patrick's Festival

Description:

  • Auckland's first festival of all things Irish was in 1994, and has now become an institution. The traditional parade proceeds up Queen Street to Aotea Square where there is a 'fleadh' or music festival all afternoon, with food, stalls, and of course, Guinness. This is all followed by a 'bus hooley', a free pub-crawl visiting Auckland's Irish pubs. For the sophisticates, there is a black (or green) tie banquet on St Patrick's Eve at varied upmarket venues.
