Bond Brook Recreation Area - Augusta
  • Type: Hiking
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Bond Brook is a choice, convenient get-away for those seeking wooded serenity in Maine's capitol.

  • Description:

    • Recently acquired by the City of Augusta, the 268-acre Bond Brook Recreation Area has already become a favorite with cross country skiers in the capitol region. Along with resources provided by Augusta's city government, the newly organized non-profit Augusta Trails and the central Maine chapter of the New England Mountain Biking Association are lending their efforts to shaping this property into a premier location for passive recreational activities – it is an excellent example of what is possible through public and private cooperation.

B   Bond Brook's comprehensive 17-mile Nordic trail system is currently being adapted and expanded for use by mountain bikers, walkers and hikers. There is no charge for accessing the trails which are open to the public. Despite this preserve's location in the heart of Augusta, it has an almost rustic feel to it as trails course through heavy brush and thick stands of trees. Without question, Bond Brook is a forested refuge worth visiting.  Access to the preserve is available by way of Mt. Hope Cemetery on Winthrop Street or Augusta Public Works at 55 North Street in Augusta.
