Description:

Located in nearby Litchfield, the 160-acre Woodbury Nature Sanctuary offers restive walking and hiking opportunities within a shady, serene forested environment. The property itself is located across from Woodbury Pond, on the border between Litchfield and Monmouth, with trail access from Whippoorwill Road. The terrain of this open space property is rolling, with opportunities to enjoy walking on flat trails as well as moderately challenging slopes. The sanctuary also features an abundance of birds and it is not uncommon to spot deer, chipmunks, and even an occasional bobcat within its borders. It is owned and managed by the Stanton Bird Club of Lewiston, Maine, who do an admirable job of keeping the property very well maintained. In total, there are four miles of trails that criss cross the sanctuary's hilly terrain which features extensive, towering stands of hardwood trees. Of special note is a seasonal vernal pool within the grounds and scenic peeks of nearby Mud Pond.
