Description:
This fine hotel, a 10-minute walk north of the town center, also contains Autun's best restaurant. It's at the edge of the Arroux River, in a stone-walled former grain mill built in the 1870s. The hotel boasts a scattering of 19th-century regional antiques and simple but comfortable guest rooms. Reminders of the winemaking trade accent the rooms. Some units have TVs and air-conditioning.
In summer, you can dine at a table overlooking the garden and a stream. Menu items include filet of local sandre (whitefish) with basil-flavored cream sauce; Charolais beef simmered in red wine; and tournedos Talleyrand, flavored with shallots and red wine (the dish is named for a local bishop, not the politician). Any of dozens of red burgundies can accompany your meal.
