• Amazingly Ulu is the very first dedicated Thai resturant in Sanur and has proved an instant hit with discerning diners since opening in early 2010. It offers a suitably tropical ambience, subtle lighting with rustic interior design and a lush garden terrace. The menu at Ulu has all the usual favorites such as Pad Thai noodles and Tod Man Goong prawn cakes, yet is decidely modern with many inventive twists. Nowhere illustrates this more than its spicy curries such as the Paneng Red which are served inside whole coconuts. There are lots of tempura style appetizers and veggie options to choose from, such as mild yellow curry with eggplant and sweet potato, and plenty of soups including creamy sweetcorn and mushroom. A small lounge bar stocks beers and cocktails but surprisingly no wine - however diners can bring their own for a small corkage fee. - Ray Montgomery
