The Best of NileGuide
- Bali is a mystical, almost magical island that offers visitors whatever they want to experience. If you'd like to retrace the steps of Elizabeth Gilbert in her best-selling book, 'Eat, Pray, Love,' you can do that. If you'd rather spend your time underwater exploring the vast sea life, you can do that, too. A combination of temples, religion, and calmness, the Balinese paradise awaits you. Known as the island of a thousand temples, it's no wonder these gorgeous architectural structures are the number one tourist attraction on Bali. There are so many picturesque Hindu temples dotted around the island, it's easy to become overwhelmed. For different reasons including sheer beauty, location, and religious significance, must-see temples include Uluwatu, Ulu Danu, Taman Ayun, Goa Gajah, Tanah Lot, and Besakih, with each offering its own unique reason for being. It's also possible to immerse yourself in the Balinese culture by visiting local museums and art galleries, viewing a Balinese dance performance, or even signing up for music, meditation, or a one-day Balinese cooking class. Enjoying the sights, sounds, and flavours of Bali is a relaxing and enjoyable way to experience the slower-paced Balinese lifestyle. With this same idea in mind, having a spa treatment or massage while on Bali is a must-do. In many cases the prices are extremely inexpensive especially if you opt to get a massage on the beach from a local who makes their living from tourists. It's like a portable beauty spa as many of the women also offer manicures and pedicures. Don't expect perfection, but do expect it to be an enjoyable experience where you get the added bonus of talking with a local one-on-one. There are many parks and gardens where you can explore the natural beauty of Bali; visit the Butterfly Park in Tabanan or the Botanical Gardens in Bedugul. Wildlife parks are bountiful and include the Bali Bird Park & Reptile Park, Bali Zoo Park, Bali Safari & Marine Park, and the Indonesia Jaya Reptile Park. River rafting is a popular local sport and is offered through a number of reputable companies around the island like Ayung River Rafting, Bali Rafting, and Bali Adventure Rafting. Expect to experience waterfalls, rainforest, and to get a close up look at the rice patty fields during the class two and three white water rafting. Scuba diving is world-class in Bali offering some of the richest marine in anywhere. Certified divers can experience wall, reef, and wreck diving during day trips or even scuba safaris on live-aboard dive boats. And if you're not already certified, many dive shops around the island offer open-water certification courses. Other water sport activities on Bali included surfing and deep-sea fishing.
