Candi Tebing (Tebing Shrine)

Description:

  • This little-known, rock-cut shrine stands at about six-and-a-half meters on a riverbank, facing south in the direction of the local burial grounds (setra). Unlike its counterparts in the Gunung Kawi complex, which date to the 11th century, this archaeological treasure takes a smaller and slimmer form and dates to the time of the East Javanese influence in Bali, around the 14th century. According to research, this shrine was traditionally used for worship of the pantheon of Hindu gods, the manifestations of one Supreme Being. Admission: By donation.
