- Ibu Rai is an Ubud institution and has been a feature of the town's eclectic dining scene since the 1960s. It has undergone many transformations yet remains true to its central philosophy of simple, great-tasting food cooked the traditional way. The restaurant is open-fronted, spacious, and designed in traditional Balinese decor with plenty of tropical greenery. The menu consists of famous Balinese dishes such as bebek betutu: slow-roasted duck and suckling pig in spicy sambal. Other options include Asian curries and stir-fries and tender grilled steaks. Ibu Rai has its own art gallery on-site with local work for sale. Evenings are very busy and reservations are highly recommended. - Ray Montgomery
