Pagerwesi Holy Day

Description:

  • Pagerwesi or Iron Fence falls on the first week of the Balinese Wuku calendar. This holy day occurs every six months and reminds one to be as strong as an iron fence - striving to be good, steadfast human beings. On the whole, it reminds one to always have faith in God and put dharma or that which is good and just above all else. The festival is celebrated with more festivity up in the northern regions of Singaraja although in the south, one will see people out in the streets making offerings and visiting the temple in the late afternoon. The dates of this festival vary each year.
