- The majestic Besakih Mother Temple lies at the foot of Mount Agung. This is the centre of Balinese Hindu life and arguably the most sacred site on the whole island of Bali. Locals would come from all over the place for blessings, and tourists will come for its unique ancient architecture and atmosphere. The temple is an extensive complex of 23 temples, with various temples dedicated to the three manifestations of Hindu God – Shiva, Brahma and Visnu, also known as the Tri Murti. The complex is vast and hilly, and the backdrop of Mount Agung only adds to the magical atmosphere of it all.
