Pura Tirta Empul

Description:

  • This temple lies in Manukaya Village, Tampaksiring (Gianyar Regency). The words Tirta Empul means "the gathering of holy water". It is believed that originally in the inner sanctum there was a huge natural spring of holy water that rose up high above the ground. The temple was erected by King Jaya Singha Warmadewa of the Warmadewa dynasty who wrote the manuscript called Manukaya (dated A.D.962) which mentions the temple and the holy spring. The yearly ceremony at Tirta Empul Temple falls during the month of the fourth full moon according to the Balinese calendar (October). Admission: By donation.
