Created by an eruption of Mount Batur approximately 30,000 years ago, Lake Bratan lies in the caldera of an active volcano. It takes about an hour's drive northeast of Denpasar to reach here. This lake measures about 5 miles in diameter and is 200 feet deep. The temple of Pura Danu Batur on the rim is dedicated to the Goddess of the Lake. The lake often becomes shrouded in mist but one can catch breathtakingly stunning views from the many vantage points along the rim. Hot springs at the lake's edge reach temperatures of 134 degrees fahrenheit while the rest of the lake is somewhat cooler.

The Rock Bar Bali serves a delectable selection of tapas and signature cocktails, the perfect place to laze away your afternoon. Unfortunately, the bar did not plan well for rain - there is a tented clearance somewhere further away, but there is no covered pathway to get back to the resort's main building.

An offshoot of the world famous Neka museum in nearby Sanginggan Village, Komaneka Gallery specializes in contemporary Balinese artwork. The building itself, which forms part of the plush Komaneka Villa Resort, is bright, stylish and modern. It efficiently uses space and lighting to good effect and although it is a commercial gallery, it has an informal ambiance. There are over a dozen new exhibitions every year featuring everything from east Asian ceramics, Japanese print works and portraiture. There are also retrospectives of well known Balinese and Indonesian painters and weekly arts lectures and classes. The permanent collection consists of eclectic works by renowned artists.
