    Run by an American-Balinese couple, one can get authentic apple pie as well as chicken satay here. One of the original eateries in Ubud, this three-story, cozy restaurant has the Ayung River at its feet. Be sure to go down to the lowest level to see the view. Sample the tasty special grill dishes and the thick and delicious juices and lassies (blended yogurt). Beer and local wines are served as well and there is no corkage charge. A small shop of high-quality crafts and jewelry is on the top floor.

    Description:

    This temple lies in Manukaya Village, Tampaksiring (Gianyar Regency). The words Tirta Empul means "the gathering of holy water". It is believed that originally in the inner sanctum there was a huge natural spring of holy water that rose up high above the ground. The temple was erected by King Jaya Singha Warmadewa of the Warmadewa dynasty who wrote the manuscript called Manukaya (dated A.D.962) which mentions the temple and the holy spring. The yearly ceremony at Tirta Empul Temple falls during the month of the fourth full moon according to the Balinese calendar (October). Admission: By donation.
