Top 10:

Cheap Banff Hotels

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Staying in Banff can cost an arm and leg. On the upper end of the scale, a night at the Banff Springs Hotel can run you over $600. Many hotels charge anywhere from $175 to $250 per night, in the peak season. But, there are places to stay for the budget conscious traveler. In fact, there are places to stay for cheap that are right downtown, in the heart of the action. So, it is possible to enjoy the experience of Banff without having to cut your trip short because you're out of cash.

First of all, Banff has several hostels that cater specifically to the backpacker crowd. A lot of young Europeans, Australians, and Kiwis travel to Banff to experience the ski/snowboard hills in the Rockies. These early twenties youths congregate at the Hostels International Alpine Centre, the King Edward Hotel, and SameSun Backpacker Lodge. The HI hostel is not downtown, nor is it near the bus/shuttle routes that go to Sunshine and Lake Louise. In contrast, the King Edward is located at the epicenter of downtown Banff. It just depends what you want to experience. The SameSun is a Canadian owned backpacking brand, and the location in Banff is a converted 4-star hotel turned hostel. Many of the old rooms are still available for private stays.

The Arrow Motel is part of the Banff Lodging Company, which also owns and operates the Fox, Caribou, Hidden Ridge, and Ptarmigan, among others. The Arrow is their budget offering, but the location is convenient and the rooms are acceptably nice. You even have access to the sister-properties fitness areas, etc.

Banff has many Bed & Breakfasts to choose from, and if you really want to experience a budget holiday, the Tunnel Mountain Campground provides room for tenting within the town limits.
