  • Not every restaurant in Banff tried to be a 'fine dining' establishment. Many of them serve good food at a good price and focus on having fun. There's some really unique places to eat in Banff. Many of Banff's pubs and bars are very lively with live music and lots of fun. Some of the restaurants in Banff serve food you can't find anywhere else in Alberta. Some are just down to earth.

The pubs in downtown Banff are usually quite busy. Only rarely, such as in the off seasons (October-November), are they a bit sleepy. They attract an active crowd of people like to be adventurous. There's no better place to go after a day of skiing than to a local pub. Along Banff Avenue, there are many pubs. The Elk and Oarsman is Banff's best sports bar. It used to be quite hard to find a place to watch the game, especially if you wanted to watch a non-North American game. The Banff Ave Brewing Co. is unique in that it's Banff's only micro-brewery, so it's a good place to find some unique blends and flavors of beer. Other pubs to check out are the Rose & Crown, St. James Gate Irish Pub, which often has live music, and Paddocks, which is downstairs below the Mt. Royal Hotel.

The Grizzly House is a truly unique restaurant. It's shaped like an A-frame tent. Inside, guests can talk between tables on phones. They serve a dish with an assortment of unusual meats, such as snake, alligator, and frog.
