  • Traveling with children is a completely different experience than traveling without them. The quest for five star luxury is not realistic. White table cloths, romantic ambiance, and fine tastes just aren't priorities. Kid friendly restaurants cater to different needs and tastes. Taking kids to a restaurant requires foresight and planning. You need toys and distractions. You also need to find something that they'll eat. Banff has several kid friendly places.

Cascade Plaza is the closest thing Banff has to a 'mall'. It's a pretty small little building with a food court downstairs and a handful of shops within its three floors. The Old Spaghetti Factory, which also has a location near Eau Claire Market in Calgary, is on the 2nd floor of Cascade Plaza. It is an unpretentious spaghetti restaurant. The table cloths are plastic, the napkins are paper. The food is simple American-Italian favorite like spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna. There is a decent kid's menu, as well.

Athena Pizza and Spaghetti offers a similar style of food as the Old Spaghetti Factory. This restaurant is just a few blocks away, but it's also on Banff Avenue. Athena does not have the same American-Italian style, but it's a Greek twist on it. If your kids love Greek food, consider Barpa Bill's Souvlaki as another alternative.

The Silver Dragon Restaurant is Banff's only Chinese food restaurant. It serves a western style Chinese food, like you might expect anywhere in North America, with dishes such as Sweet & Sour Pork, Ginger Beef, and Chow Mien. Another relatively cheap Asian restaurant along Banff Ave. is Chaya. It serves some great ramen and udon. It's an authentic Japanese experience. But, it's one draw back is that it doesn't have any high-chairs for little kids.
