Things to Do Near The Banff Centre, Banff, Canada

  • The Banff Centre is the artistic hub of the Rocky Mountains. It has been supporting the arts in Banff for over 60 years. The Banff Centre regularly brings in traveling performing groups, and also supports the creation of local, unique art. The location on Tunnel Mountain overlooks the town and provides great views of the river valley and the surrounding mountains. It is a beautiful setting for art. The Walter Phillips Gallery is one of Banff's largest art galleries, and one of it's few non-commercial galleries. It is located at the Banff Centre.

    Also located at the Banff Centre is the Sally Borden Fitness & Recreation center. It is Banff's only recreation center. Inside there is a climbing wall, a pool, several gymnasiums, and a fitness area and weight room. The glass roof over the pool allows swimmer to see the mountains!

    The Banff Centre is quite close to downtown Banff and Banff Avenue, the commerical hub of Banff National Park. Downtown has several museums that can enhance your experience of the park. The Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum is a First Nations museum. The Banff Park Museum is a natural history museum. And the Whyte Museum is a collection of artifacts and artwork covering the settlement of the Banff area.

    Along Banff Avenue are all sorts of shops, such as the Welch's Chocolate Shop. It is known as "the Banff Candy Store". Also the Spirit of Christmas, Monod Sports, and the Fudgery are noteworthy. Many of the festivals in Banff involve art and literature, and the Banff Centre is involved in those.
