Welch's Chocolate Shop, aka "the Banff Candy Store", has been delighting children and tourists with handmade and hard-to-find candies since 1965. Located in the middle of the bustling Banff Avenue, it's an impossible store to miss. Inside the shop, huge crowds cram themselves into tiny little aisles. Candy shelves go from floor to ceiling. You can find just about any type of candy at Welch's, even many brands that are hard to find anywhere else in Canada. In fact, the heavy tourist traffic is what helped expand the selection, as people from all around the world would make recommendations of their favorite candies back home. Much of the selection is made in store, particularly the fudge and chocolate, but also hard candies and mints. For Albertans, Welch's is "the candy store", ie. almost every Albertan has memories of going to Welch's as a kid. This store is all about feeling like a kid.
