Description:
Many people come to the mountains for the skiing and outdoor sports, but there’s another reason to come: the food. Over the years, several new award-winning restaurants have sprung up in the mountain towns, and everything tastes better in the fresh mountain air.
Day Note:
There are so many restaurants in Banff and Canmore to choose from that it's hard to choose just a few, so begin your two days of eating by picking up a local food guide. However, by popular choice, here are some recommendations. Chez Francois is famous for homemade breakfasts, including a duck liver pate croissant. The Grizzly Paw is a local brewery, offering you a delicious locally-prepared beer on a patio surrounded by mountains, and the Crazyweed Kitchen...read more

Description:
With its prime location on Banff Avenue, this cafe is always jammed, with customers often spilling out onto the sidewalk to enjoy their coffee. While not the place for a quiet cup of java, the coffee here is excellent and the friendly staff can assemble a healthy lunch of soup and sandwiches in no time. If you can find a place to sit, this is ideal people-watching real estate and it is great fun trying to guess the accents of tourists who file in and out.

Our Local Expert Says:
A personal favorite of mine, this store has every kind of treat you crave. And they make the fudge behind a window so you can watch.
Description:
The management of this sweet shop must have to spend a fortune on window washers. There is always a crowd of people with their faces pressed up against the front window watching chocolate and caramel delights being prepared. The Fudgery makes up sticky caramel apples, big slabs of chocolate bark, nutty treats, ice cream and bricks of fudge. And its location on Banff Avenue means they are always busy. Be warned: just the smell of this place could rot your teeth.
