Fat Gut'z Saloon

• A long narrow bar on a corner in Bangkok's trendy Thonglor area, Fat Gut'z is another creation from the people who brought us The Iron Fairies (which is just a stone's throw away on the same side of the street). A fine selection of whiskeys is on hand, while the rum offerings are just a few. The menu is short but sweet, but the top of the list and star of the show is written on the front door: the fish and chips. Live music is offered in the evenings, leaning toward blues or jazz. There is upstairs seating and a hole in the ceiling that allows the tunes to drift up. Seating is at a few tables toward the back near the band (which is right in the thick of things) or bar stools up front. Reservations can be made. It gets crowded on weekends so much so that the wait staff takes drinks out the front door to run them to guests in through the back door. Live music starts at 9 p.m. They also deliver food until midnight.
