Bangkok has long been a favorite destination for the Japanese. Businessmen and holiday makers alike flock to the city in great numbers and represent a big market in the tourism industry. Certain hotels, clubs and even neighborhoods seems to cater to the Japanese clientele. But what does that mean to the typical non-Japanese tourist? Loads of great Japanese restaurants! When you think you might need a break from Thai food or have a sudden craving for fresh sushi or a Japanese grill, Bangkok has a lot of options to choose from. Here are the top ten Japanese restaurants that you may want to check out in Bangkok.
Set in the hipster neighborhood of Thonglor, Mugendai Sushi and Tempura Bar may have the loveliest setting of all of them. The rooftop restaurant has great night views and provides indoor and outdoor seating. Tsu and Nami (probably not the best choice in names since the tragedy) are sister restaurants in the JW Marriott and face each other across a central bar area. On the one side you can get top-notch fresh sushi, while on the other side you can gather around the grill for something a bit warmer. You can't go wrong with any of the rest of these but one notable Japanese restaurant that seems to set itself apart is In the Mood for Love Sushi Bar and Bistro. While the creative roll approach is still just catching on in Japan, you can get ahead of the curve here at what is hands down the most creative of them in Bangkok. The menu does offer grilled and fried dishes but the rolls combine textures and flavors that may leave you talking about them for a long time.
