Bangkok's five-star hotels are numerous and with such competition among them comes a level of service and pampering that will make you feel like royalty. Prepare yourself for some Thai luxury at these exceptional hotel properties. You may never want to leave Bangkok -- or even the hotel. Location may end up being the deciding factor in your choice among five-star hotels.
One preferred spot is along the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Here you've got the stately classic Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and not too far along the bank, the Shangri-La. Also on the river but on the western or Thonburi side are the Peninsula and the Millenium Hilton. Both require a ferry across (or taxi over the bridges) but then all the riverside hotels offer those frequently and free of charge.
Nestled into the heart of downtown near Ratchaprasong are two other highly distinguished high-end hotels: The Four Seasons and Grand Hyatt Erawan are practically next door to each other and a short walk from the shopping malls at Ratchaprasong as is the InterContinental. The Conrad isn't too far off but on Wireless Road it is definitely out of the downtown squeeze. A shuttle takes guests in a few minutes to the Skytrain.
Right on top of both the Skytrain and Subway is the Dusit Thani, another old classic but on the line between Silom Road and Lumphini Park. On the less pedestrian friendly Sathorn Road, parallel to Silom, is The Sukhothai, a lush oasis in the midst of high-rises and embassies. Any of these choices represent the best of five-star luxury by any measure.
