  • Bangkok is the sort of place you really can't get enough of as a traveler. But it is also an important commercial and industry hub in Southeast Asia, bringing in loads of business travelers and specialists to keep pace with Thailand's development. For either the long-term traveler or the person staying long-term in Bangkok for work or business, it is always better to find a good apartment or condo to make your home base. That is not as tricky or complicated as it may sound. You won't need to dig through the want-ads (though that also works, as well as postings around town). What you need to find is a good residence hotel or what is commonly called a serviced apartment. These come fully furnished and, while they offer many of the amenities of a hotel property -- a swimming pool, fitness centers, guest services and such -- they are also enough of a personal abode that you may forget Bangkok is only your temporary home. (If it is in fact temporary. Many permanent resident immigrants choose these apartments as well for their incredible convenience and comfort.)

Whether for business or for pleasure, these are the top ten places to find an apartment or condo -- a serviced apartment -- in Bangkok. Note that Marriott has several locations and is making a strong play for a bigger share of that market. Choose your neighborhood as much as the great digs. Sathorn Road is a common location, surrounded by office buildings, high-end hotels and embassies. Sukhumvit Road is the center artery of the city and nicely tied into the Skytrain system.
