So you are wondering what neighborhood to stay in on your next trip to Bangkok. Might we suggest Bangrak? If you don't know the name, you should. This is the area between Lumphini Park and the Chao Phraya River, basically the region around Silom Road. Within are the infamous Patpong, myriad restaurants, bars and clubs, and a few of the riverside luxury hotels. Sala Daeng BTS Station connects the neighborhood to the Skytrain, while Silom Station offers access to the MRT Subway. And along the length of Silom Road and Surawong Road is an assortment of places to eat that are a bit more reasonable than the equivalents around Pathumwan or much of Sukhumvit Road. So why not choose a hotel here as well?
This is a list of the top ten places to stay in Silom Road and the rest of Bangrak. For the high-end traveler you won't be disappointed. Some of the best places are here. Along the river is the venerable Mandarin Oriental or the always pleasant Shangri-La. At the opposite end of Silom Road, near Lumphini Park, is the classic Dusit Thani. Throw in Lebua at State Tower with its famous sky bar at Sirocco and you have the best of the best. But spend a little less and still get some class at the Sofitel on Silom. Siam Heritage is a good bet for something boutique. Economical travelers will be happy with the Holiday Inn or perhaps the Narai Hotel. But if you are going the backpacker budget route, you are in great luck. A second location of the wonderful Lub D hostel is located between Silom and Surawong.
