Chinatown Gate (Odeon Gate)

Chinatown Gate (Odeon Gate) - Bangkok
  • Type: Landmarks
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

This is a good landmark for finding the beginning of Chinatown.

  • Description:

    • Located in the middle of a traffic circle, this massive Chinese-style gate also known as the Odeon Gate, welcomes visitors to Bangkok's Chinatown neighborhood. Its construction was in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's (King Rama IX) 72nd birthday and so the words inscribed in Chinese upon the structure say Long Live the King. Coming from the Hua Lumphoung Train Station area or the MRT station of the same name, take Thanon Tri Mit past Wat Traimit and you come right to it. At the traffic circle the two roads coming from the right or north-northwest are Yaowarat Road and Charoen Krung Road, either of which heads through Chinatown.
