Democracy Monument

Democracy Monument - Bangkok

  • Description:

    • This huge granite monument built in 1940 lies in the center of a busy roundabout. Its seven-meter high wings will help you get your bearings in the popular surrounds. Built to commemorate the establishment of the constitutional monarchy in Thailand, the location became the rallying point for student unrest and popular revolt. Uprisings in 1973 and 1976 started here. The monument was a site of less noble action in 1992 when scores of Thais were killed as they protested against General Suchinda's regime.
