- Type: Art Museums/Galleries
NileGuide Expert tip:
Don't miss the Silpa Bhirasri Memorial National Museum which is a smaller, separate building that once served as a studio for the Italian-born namesake, also known as the Father of Thai contemporary art.
Description:
- Housing both traditional and contemporary Thai art, the National Gallery displays works by Thai artists from the 17th century onwards. The contemporary works are interesting in the way they demonstrate the impact of major Western schools, such as impressionism and cubism, on Thai art. The gallery has established itself as a favorite among serious art connoisseurs, while many casual visitors are left a little cold by some of the more idiosyncratic offerings. Many excellent temporary collections also grace the walls to general acclaim.
