Public Question Asked by Gui about Bangkok

Hi there! I'll be in Bangkok in January for 2-3 days. What are the top 3-5 places you would recommend me to visit in the city that are 'tourist free' and where only locals go? And how is the best way to get to these places? Thanks!

Maybe Bangnam Phueng Floating Market, in Samutprakarn province. It's pretty local, you will only find a few foreigners there. But the market is more like food stalls. Thats why lots of locals there. Getting there is you can take the bus to Bangna Intersection and take mini transfer to Sanphawut and ferry cross the river. The easiest way is to take a cab.

Good question Gui. Sounds like a Thai name, so I guess you can get by without an interpreter, which is good, since the English speakers are easier to find around known attractions. Some places with few Farangs that I found interesting are: KohKret island on ChaoPraya, or try Local markets such as Nonthaburi market. If your stuck in town - Lumpini park is ok for a break. Tourists rarely to to ChulaLongkorn University Campus, which has some nice historical buildings. Sorry - I don't know about night life - but there's sure to be something around DinDaeng area.

If you never been in bangkok before. You have to visit to the Emerald Buddha Temple or Royal Palace . I know you asked for free for tourist but this place is a must for tourist to see and the fee is not that expensive but do not ware short to go there. After you visit this palace there are a lot of temple around there for free to see. You can cross the river for more temple. Also some museum around there too.
And at night time you can go to flower market that right by the river which is not that far from all around there where you have visit all temple. This market is start a round 6 pm up to morning. You can just wait around from temple tour. This will cover you all day up to night time.
For next morning you can visit the weekend market. This weekend market start on Sat and Sun only. It's the biggest weekend market that you ever going to see. You can take a sky train to there. It's depend where you will stay in BKK. Bangkok is more for shopping and old palace which that you have to pay to get in . I think is worth while just to pay to see all. It will cost you that much. Hope you will enjoy and have fun.

Dear Gui,

Thanks for asking this question. Besides the "regulars" like the Royal Palace, Wat Pho and a walk through China Town, join Colors of Bangkok cycling tour. This will give you a very different and more realistic view of Bangkok and is away from tourist trails. If you're not able to ride a bicycle, they also do this tour walking & rickshaw. Look for more information on www.bangkokbiking.com

have fun!

There are many beautiful tourist places around Bangkok such as the Emerald Buddha Temple, Palace, city temple stupas, musuem, restaurants, night markets and shopping malls. For my area, I live in Samutprakarn where there is famous crocodile zoo that charge just 300 baht a person, Bangpoo recreational area, a place to see migrant birds and a popular water ski located just 30 minutes from the airport. I also offer homestay with full accommodations.

Where tourists don't go was the question , why not try south of the river as you are in the jungle & you won't find many tourists. Many parks, temples, markets & some intresting foods. My question to you is what do you like & what do you want ? may be if you tell people they can find for you & for more free info e-mail

Sawasdee krab khun Gui. I believe the rual areas would be really non tourist.
Areas of non tourist in Bangkok are few as tourist seem to be everywhere.
Go to the south end of the city by using the water bus, or meter taxi.

Spent one day or night in Pattaya, your single and would love the attractions like Walking street, like Disneyland but the rides are better. Ya need the cash to enjoy Thailand, if poor do not expect to see a lot.. just other tourists spending money that goes a long ways in value.
Right now I am at airport heading for Bkk, then my apartment in Pattaya..
