just a thought on the location of Majestic Suites - to get to the sky train from the hotel you will have to walk through one of the most famous - and not very upmarket - red light bar district of Bangkok.
Many people do not really like that - over to you.

From cheap to good value for money you better go to Khao San/Banglamphu area.
There you will find all sorts of accomodation.

Yes, Khao San Road will be the best option for budget accommodation. You just need to walk down there!!!

What is "cheap" in hard currency? Beware cheap is always (too) expensive! There are so many internet sites - just browse around and make your own choice.

July is not a month of high season, so you'll get good price from many places. By the way, you're not coming to Thailand for travelling, are you ? Let me guess..ummm..a survey for future group tour ? if so, you may need partner(s) and i can be of help :)

in case you'll be staying for long period, i'd recommend other types of accommendations which will help you save a lot but of course not in CBD..and daily commutation will let you familiarize yourself extendedly with bangkok.

...too lazy to guess more :)

if you have specific purpose to achieve upon your trip and like to discuss more, please feel free to write me tumsutti@hotmail.com

try bead and breakfast kind of place to stay around Soi Kasemsant, opposite to the national stadium. And another one on Silom Rd. --which I dont remember the name. It is more like a room to stay for youth..that is cheap and is in a good location, good access to the sky train. Narai hotel is also not expensive when you book on internet. Around 50-60 us$ with ABF., may be cheaper...Good luck.
