Khao yai is a big place, it is covered 4 provinces area so a day trip is too short, but if that is you are looking for, the park itself offer trekking trip from 1 to 3 days also camping you may check out this site www.thaiforestbooking.com you may choose from one of many view point as well

It takes only a few hours drive from bangkok:Kaoyai. A day trip will kill you without resting. There are many nice places for staying a night over plus it would be nicer if you could spend ur day during weekend. There are many beautiful places for a visit not to include some souvenior shops which are superb and very tourist attractive. Not only for foreigner like you but also Thai pple themselves too. If you interested, we could organised a few days trip there either in private or gather small number of pple to join us. We will rent a car and drive there with no question for easy and comfy purpose. How much is your budget? Please don't hesitate to call or keep in touch via Localyte.

As the two previous answers, yes, a day tour wont make it. You can, if you just need a taste of KY enter from Narkhorn Nayok but should really go to Pakchong. If I were you I would go to one of the resorts of which there are plenty in the area. You will most likely find people who you can join for a hike in the park.

Hello Joris
I would concur with Onanong. Maybe consider a two day trip for more relaxed fun.
Take care.

I would take the opportunity to combine Khao Yai National Park with some interesting places in the North East such as Phimai or Buriram. You need 2 days at least anyway.
