Bangkok for Kids

Bangkok for Kids

Description:

Let’s be honest, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Bangkok is not “family travel with kids.” But the fact of the matter is there are myriad places to entertain the little ones from water parks to zoos and aquariums.

Day Note:

Head to the zoo first thing in the morning before the heat of the day gets going. Then in the afternoon you can enjoy the air-conditioned museum. This is located next to the Chatuchak Market where you might get some trinket shopping in or hunt for snacks. This is reachable by SkyTrain at the Mor Chit station. Though much of the signage is in both English and Thai, be aware that the museum is geared toward Thai children and the recorded bits are in Thai.

If Northern Thailand is not on your itinerary, Dusit Zoo offers the chance to ride an elephant.

    Description:

While the zoo is not huge, it is plenty of distraction for children in the Bangkok heat. Dusit Zoo has been open since the 1950s and occupies a 47-acre space not far from attractions such as the Grand Palace. You'll see monkeys, giraffes, chimpanzees, crocodiles and elephants. Alternatives include Siam Ocean World over at Siam Paragon mall or a day's trip outside of Bangkok to the expansive Khao Kheow Open Zoo.

    Description:

This kid's paradise is all about having fun while they learn. The intention is to let kids discover for themselves how the world works rather than making them party to boring displays. There are several apparatus, games and galleries to foster learning through experimentation. At the Bangkok Children's Discovery Museum, children can create gigantic bubbles, learn about illusion through mirrors and listen to the recordings of languages all over the world. They can even learn Thai cooking, host their own radio show and read a book in the reading zone. There are music rooms, folk art rooms and auto engines. Truly a place for kids to let their hair down and acquire some knowledge in the process.

Day Note:

This is a whole day event so pack the sunscreen and water. Go early like around 9 or 10 so you can be sure to see all the scheduled animal activities. A rental car is a good idea for seeing the animals in the safari portion of the park, but the park also has its own coach and English guides can be requested.

From the outside, you may think you're entering a new hot dance club. Even the bowling shoes evoke high fashion.

    Description:

You wouldn't guess bowling to be an extremely popular past-time for Thai youth, but the abundance of bowling alleys is telling. This 38-lane location is located in Central Rama III Mall. They have leagues and a pro-shop, but for the day-tripper just go rent some shoes and pay by the game. Prices will depend on the day of the week and the time of the day. Find Major Bowl on the 7th floor across from the Cineplex. Buses 22, 62, 67, 77, 102, 519 all come to Central Rama III.
