Day Note:

The Museum of Siam is a good place to start with the kids. Educational, interactive, and good context for everything they are experiencing here in Bangkok. A bit of ice skating later on is a nice way to cool down.

Housed in a colonial-style 1919 Ministry of Commerce building, the Museum of Siam takes on the history of the land from long before Thailand on up to the modern day. Elements of cultures, archaeology, politics and religion are all addressed using attractive and often interactive exhibits. The Museum of Siam is a wonderful learning space for children, but adults are sure to learn as much as well. Admission is free for kids under 15, while foreign adults pay 300 baht. Groups of 5 pay half price!

    Description:

Cool off from the heat of Bangkok at the indoor ice rink in the Esplanade shopping center. This is an excellent alternative if the children are tired of shopping and temples. The rink is not huge, but there is plenty of room for beginners to glide along the outer rink while the more able skaters spin, jump or twist around in the center. Lessons are reasonably priced, and there are teachers for both freestyle and ice hockey. Skates and socks are available for rent if you turn up in your flip flops.

Day Note:

Crocodiles and elephants up close? Beats the zoo, to be sure. The dinosaurs are a bonus. Get some air-conditioned comfort later on at the Children's Discovery Museum.

    Description:

This kid's paradise is all about having fun while they learn. The intention is to let kids discover for themselves how the world works rather than making them party to boring displays. There are several apparatus, games and galleries to foster learning through experimentation. At the Bangkok Children's Discovery Museum, children can create gigantic bubbles, learn about illusion through mirrors and listen to the recordings of languages all over the world. They can even learn Thai cooking, host their own radio show and read a book in the reading zone. There are music rooms, folk art rooms and auto engines. Truly a place for kids to let their hair down and acquire some knowledge in the process.

Day Note:

The snake farm is exhilarating fun and your kids get to handle the creatures after the presentation. Great photo ops. Lumphini Park is just a short walk away. Find some good shade, maybe pick up some street food from a vendor there. Then when you are up for some activity, you can set out in one of the paddleboats.

    Description:

This is a great place to see cobras, kraits, vipers and pythons in all their glory. You can also hold a giant python and see snakes "milked" of their venom and see lectures and demonstrations delivered in English and Thai. The snake farm is part of a larger research facility operating a traveler immunization clinic where visitors can get vaccinated against rabies, hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, tetanus, polio, Japanese encephalitis, influenza and cholera.

    Our Local Expert Says:

If you're not too busy watching the group fitness routines, look out for Lumphini's wildlife. Giant monitor lizards and tropical birds make you forget you're in the middle of a city!

    Description:

Smack in the heart of the city lies Lumphini Park, an oasis of nature within bustling Bangkok. The first of its kind in Bangkok, plans for the public park began in 1925. Lumphini Park is named after the Buddha's birthplace and covers approximately 58 hectares, gracing the city with greenery and waterways for picnics, pick-up sports and paddleboat rides. Early mornings are unforgettable: hordes of fitness group regulars engage in synchronized aerobics, while others jog peacefully and practice tai chi. Lumphini Park is a great place to take a timeout during a long day of sightseeing.
