Established in 1896, the BSO is one of the oldest community orchestras in the United States. The orchestra does a good job of combining instrumental perfection with music that appeals to generations of listeners. A typical season schedule may include a holiday concert with members of the University of Maine Oratorio Society to a tribute to Motown, as well as a sampling of Beethoven classics. Thanks to an anonymous donor's gift, this community orchestra now offers a program that contributes to the artistic development of young gifted musicians.
