Description:

  • Situated across the street from the Cascada de la Virgen waterfall, and right on the doorstep of the hot springs of the same name, this is one of the town's most popular moderately priced hotels. Rooms are pleasantly decorated and relatively spacious, although many show their age. You can choose colonial, cabana, or executive rooms and suites -- the latter being the newest and best of the bunch. Established in 1930, and currently run by English climber Brian Warmington, Sangay offers both recreation and relaxation, with tennis and squash courts, a large swimming pool with a water slide, and spa facilities that include Jacuzzis, steam baths, a sauna, and a wide range of massage and spa treatments. This hotel is popular with tour groups and families, which may put off those looking for a romantic getaway, although it's well located and a good deal for the money.
