• Now in its sixteenth year, Barcelona's only brewpub continues to enjoy success as Catalonia's capital gradually awakens to the pleasures of craft beer. Located fittingly in the Eixample (extension) neighborhood, La Cervesera Artesana is a small operation that thinks big. In addition to seven import taps, featuring Kwak and Franziskaner among them, the brewpub pours a stout, wheat, blonde, honey ale, and pale ale, with occasional seasonals gracing the list. Their bottle menu is equally ambitious, with over seventy beers from around the world, including hard-to-find ales from Belgium and the Basque country, and a whiskey selection both broad and nuanced. Centered on a beautifully polished horseshoe-shaped bar, Cervesera's aesthetic is decidedly rustic, accentuated in its tiled floor and exposed brick walls. Beer memorabilia makes up the bulk of its décor, save for art when it hosts one of its occasional expositions. Standard tapas make up the menu, and the beer is also available for takeaway in unique vase bottles. - Brent Katte
