Cheap hotels, hostels and bed and breakfasts are not hard to come by in Barcelona. Even if you're looking to stay in the city center, there's plenty of affordable options for singles, couples and groups of friends looking for a fun weekend away. If you're planning on staying in Barcelona for more than four or five days, the best 'bang for your buck' is to rent an apartment. If you're only in town for a short while however, then a nice boutique hotel or one of Barcelona's upscale hostels are great ideas.
Our number one pick and a Barcelona classic, is Kabul Hostel. Kabul can't be any more centrally located, as it's smack in the middle of the infamous, Plaza Reial, home to night clubs, restaurants, bars and can be easily dubbed as one of the most touristy squares in the city. Situated in the Gothic Quarter, Kabul is a perfect place to stay for a few days, especially if you're looking to meet other travelers and enjoy an exciting night out.
Not far from Kabul and slightly more upscale, yet not expensive, is Hotel Jazz. This is an affordable, charming boutique hotel situated in the old city, with close proximity to everything either via foot, metro or bus. It also sports a nice rooftop patio with city views and a pool.
Slightly out of the city center and in the more modern neighborhood, is Hotel Sant Antoni. Close to the Sagrada Familia, this small hotel has everything you need for a luxurious stay, at very reasonable prices.
