If you're in the mood to splurge, then Barcelona's five star hotels are the best place to start. Not only do they embody luxury, but most of them are situated in historic, modernist buildings, some even designed by Gaudi and his contemporaries, providing for an even more authentic feel to your Barcelona experience.
Our number one pick and a young addition to Barcelona's five star hotel chain, is the W Hotel. Barely two years old, this beach side 26 storey giant has become the new place to be seen amongst tourists and expats, as it's well known for their famous djs and innovative cocktails.
Just down the boardwalk on the other side of the beach, is our number three pick, Hotel Arts. Frequented by actors and musicians this luxurious hotel has an incredible rooftop patio with a large size pool and a garden with hammocks and 24 hour service.
Further into town, this hotel was named after the King himself. Our number nine pick, Rey Juan Carlos I, was built just before the '92 Olympics and has become a Barcelona staple. It's a gorgeous hotel with fine detailing and a glass encased indoor atrium. Located in the slightly posher area of town, it's a great place to stay if you want to get away from some of the noise, yet still be quite central within walking distance from the shops and restaurants.
