  • When it comes to late nights in Barcelona, there's no lack of nightclubs, discos, bars and after hours to keep the party going. Between the beach front 'tourist havens', clandestine local hubs, electronic shows and old school rock dives, Barcelona's renowned for its life after dark. Largely centered in and around ciutat vella (old city), the Eixample neighborhood also swarms with clubs, especially gay ones such as Metro and Bboy.

If you're not looking for hard core clubbing, but can appreciate passionate DJs, tasty cocktails and a slightly more elegant and relaxed atmosphere, our top pick, Café Royal is worth checking out. This small cocktail lounge, transformed into a trendy nightclub after 12am, is a good place to mingle as opposed to "rage." It's located just off of Plaza Reial beside the well known Kabul Hostel.

We've chosen our number 5 pick, City Hall, for its late night 'go to' appeal. No matter where you're situated within the city or what state you're in, City Hall is always a sure bet. It's perfect for late night dancing to a mix of top 40 and hard rock classics and it's smack in the city center on Rambla Catalunya, so you can stumble there from basically anywhere in Barcelona. The rooftop patio garden also provides for some soothing late night chill out time, once you're no longer able to stay on your feet.

Slightly up the road and further into Gracia, is a blast into the 90's. If you're into electric guitar, or anything before the year 2000, then our number 8 pick is the place to be. Rustic, sticky and always packed, this head banging, hip swaying rock bar is one of the best nights you'll have in Barcelona.
