Hotel Colon

Description:

  • The Colón is in the heart of Barcelona's Ciutat Vella -- a good choice if this is the part of town you've come to see -- though it can seem a little old-fashioned, with traditional furniture and fittings and without any concessions to modernity. Situated opposite the main entrance to the cathedral (the best rooms on the sixth floor have small terraces with splendid views), this hotel sits behind a dignified neoclassical facade. Inside, you'll find conservative and slightly old-fashioned public rooms, a helpful staff, and good-size guest rooms filled with comfortable furniture. Despite recent renovations, the decor remains fairly old-fashioned with heavily patterned drapes and upholstery. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms containing a tub/shower combo. Not all rooms have views; however, those at the back of the building are quieter. Some of the lower rooms are rather dark. Upon request, families can often be given more spacious rooms and the hotel often has Christmas, New Year's, and summer-season deals.
