Hotel Fira Palace

• Highly popular among business travelers because of its plush conference facilities and easy access to the exhibition centers of Plaça Espanya, this well-equipped hotel opened especially for the 1992 Olympics. The main disadvantage for leisure travelers is the hike to the city center and to the principal sights. That said, if you are traveling with kids, the Fira offers some of the best family-friendly accommodations around, including huge rooms with separate bathroom and shower facilities. It's also close to Montjuïc hill's gardens, parks, and rambling footpaths. The Fira has all the communal facilities one would expect from a hotel of this standard, including two pricey restaurants (it's more economical, though, to eat outside of the hotel), a selection of health and fitness facilities, and an indoor swimming pool (closed Sun).
