  • The Best of NileGuide
  • When it comes to the best restaurants in Barcelona, there's a reason it's fast emerging as a hot culinary destination. With restaurants on every corner ranging from typical Catalan tapas, to Asian cuisine, Italian pasta and Argentinean asado, its a city that caters to all tastes and backgrounds. Some of Barcelona's best restaurants are hidden amongst the cobble stone side streets in the old city and can be incredibly hard to find unless you know where you're going, so check the address before venturing out. For excellent tapas the Eixample district has some wonderful, slightly trendier and more upscale options.

Our first pick, is arguably the best restaurant in the city. Situated on a small side street in the Born, Montiel is a two storey, small, quaint and elegant restaurant. They have fresh fish daily, however their menu includes a variety of meats, salads and appetizers and desserts. The interior is lined with bricks, the decor subtle, yet warm and the staff are attentive.

If you're into meat, than our number four pick is for you. This Argentinean style restaurant knows how to cook a steak 'poco hecho' (bloody rare) and is one of Barcelona's best places to get the most 'bang for your buck' when it comes to asado (bbq). It lacks slightly in atmosphere and decor, but if it's meat you're after, it's the place to be.

On the other side of La Rambla, as you head into the Raval, our number six pick is a romantic, chiringuito style restaurant set in a beautiful garden. El Jardi's tapas are delicious, as is their cava sangria. We chose this place for both it's location as well as its vibe. Situated right beside the Baroness Carmen Thyssen Bornemisza medieval art private collection, it's tucked away in a small courtyard, away from the noise of the Raval and perfect for enjoying the sun on a Saturday afternoon, while enjoying tapas and a few copas de vino.
