GrĂ cia is maybe the best, but is very expensive. Sant Andreu, as well, cheaper and quiet. I'm live here, come on day and I'll show around. Regards!

If you are coming on vacation, you need something centric. Eixample district is a good choice. In the old town, Born is the best choice - but avoid Raval at all costs! Not for kids...

Not familiar with tourist appartments in Gracia or other districts...

If you are planning to leave on town, things change, as you'll want to be near a school area. Most foreigners choose Sarria (or the upskilled town of Sant Cugat) for that reason.

The old city is a great area, as you're very central and within walking distance from everything. The Gothic Quarter, the Born or anywhere near Las Ramblas. That being said if you have kids and want to be a little less 'out of the action' where it's a bit quieter look into the eixample neighborhood which is also very central and easily walkable from most places, but slightly quieter and less busy.
