Unfortunately locals don't celebrate New Year's outdoors much in Barcelona. Not really any popular place to go wait for the countdown surrounded by animated Barcelonans.

My suggestion is make sure to get a dinner reservation ASAP, as it's hard to get one last-minute.

After the countdown (most of the times at some private house), young locals dress up and go to either a private party or some nightclub to spend the rest of the night. Mind locals aren't likely to start arriving until 1am THE EARLIEST!

Entrances are expensive and it's recomendable to get them in advance aswell. I recomend places such as Luz de Gas for people on their 30-40's, CDLC for 20-30's trendies, and Razzmatazz for wilder options.

Many will go see the sunrise by the beach, then head somewhere to get some hot chocolate and churros to pick-up some energy before going back home and sleep until late late late lunchtime (NĂºria Bar top of La Rambla is likely to be open).
