Description:
This former 17th-century coaching inn sits near the northwestern tip of Bassenthwaite Lake. A series of extensions were later added. Everything about it evokes old-fashioned English coziness. Fireplaces warm a moderately eccentric bar area, a mishmash of antique and merely old-fashioned furniture, and individually decorated bedrooms whose windows overlook 24 hectares (60 acres) of forest and parkland associated with the hotel. Two bedrooms offer sitting areas.
