Description:
Housed in a building that has been used as a pub since 1361, the George Inn has been modernized since then but maintains many of its vestiges from the past -- uneven floors, a large open fireplace with a dog-wheel once used for spit roasting -- and has an extensive garden used as a dining area in the summer, as well as a children's playground. About 30 daily specials are chalked onto a blackboard in addition to a regular menu of fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes. Two of the best desserts -- admittedly old-fashioned -- are bread-and-butter pudding and sticky toffee pudding.
